DESCRIPTION – UroVysion FISH is a new molecular technique to determine the most common urothelial carcinoma which is related to chromosomal abnormalities with DNA probes in voided urine.

METHODOLOGY – fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH)

TURN AROUND TIME – 10 days

PATIENT PREPARATION –

COLLECT – second morning, clean-catch voided urine specimen collected

SPECIMEN PREPARATION – 50 ml urine in a sterile screw caped container

STORAGE/TRANSPORT TEMPERATURE – ambient or refrigerated but do not freeze and transport within 24 hours

STABILITY – ambient: 1 week from collection; refrigerated: 1 week from collection

UNACCEPTABLE CONDITIONS – frozen and unfixed specimens
