BONE SPECIFIC ALKALINE PHOSPHATASE
DESCRIPTION – bone specific alkaline phosphatase is used to diagnose and assess the severity of metabolic bone disease including Paget disease, osteomalacia, and other states of high bone turnover. The test can monitor efficacy of anti-resorptive therapies including post-menopausal osteoporosis treatment
METHODOLOGY – quantitative chemiluminiscent immunoassay
TURN AROUND TIME – within 24 hours
PATIENT PREPARATION –
COLLECT – serum separator tube or green (sodium heparin)
SPECIMEN PREPARATION – transfer 1 ml of serum or plasma to transport tube
STORAGE/TRANSPORT TEMPERATURE – critical frozen
STABILITY – ambient: 2 hours; refrigerated: 48 hours; frozen: 2 months
UNACCEPTABLE CONDITION – urine and grossly hemolyzed specimens
